"What Wimbledon is to tennis and Lords is to cricket so Guards is to Polo with Guards Polo club being respected throughout the world.  So when John's son Chris who is one of the Hayfield directors is winning at Guards and playing on the number one pitch he must be doing something right!  But don't think for one moment that young Chris is a rich young buck just having fun and burning up some spare money - typically £400 for a game that lasts a total of 28 minutes.  Not one bit of it.  Chris is now a hard working professional polo player who runs two teams for his patrons, trains the polo ponies, umpires matches he is not playing in and coaches the players.

And where did his love of polo start?  At Hayfield Riding Centre in Aberdeen of course over fifteen years ago when his mad dad picked up a polo stick and started whacking a ball about.  From there on it has been a whole lot of fun and with more hard work and sweat than anyone can ever imagine.  In the intervening 15 years Chris has played polo in Scotland, England, France, Morrocco, Kuala Lumpur, Argentina and New Zealand.  The only pony still at Hayfield from those early days is Honey who is in retirement but played the Pony Club UK championships with Chris and his friend Derek Keilloh who is now Major Derek Keilloh.  No doubt Honey remembers those days well when she would gallop full tilt while Derek whacked the ball forwards to score the winning goals.
